As summer starts to really heat up, Brian Misko is sweating over the details of competition barbecuing.

House of Q was declared the Reserve Grand Champion on May 29th at the Canadian Festival of Chili and BBQ at the Cascades Casino in Langley, BC.  The event, the longest running bbq competition in British Columbia, was founded by the late David and Pat Veljacic who are noted as the pioneers of competition bbq and chili in the province.

The second annual Beef in BC Day in being held on June 1 in Victoria. The event, hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, is to celebrate the beef producers in BC and to promote the quality of beef product from in our province.

BBQ Brian was invited to cook for the Ministry, MLA's and Premier Christy Clark and many beef industry dignitaries on the grounds of the provincial legislature.  The event, open to the public from noon to 1:30 PM, will celebrate beef with two beef dishes this year including House of Q Signature Steak Bites and a Char-Crusted Beef Roast with Roasted Peppers.

After competing in Kelowna, Richmond, Whistler and Langley through the summer of 2010, House of Q was declared the recipient of the BC Cup Team of the Year. 

This is an awesome reward and shows the team’s dedication to supporting bbq across the province and our ability to achieve consistent results.

The award is determined by the accumulation of points at four BC competitions where entries include beef brisket, pork butt, ribs and chicken. The comepetitions were Smoke on the Water in Kelowna, Canadian Festival of BBQ and Chili in Richmond, the Canadian BBQ Championships in Whistler and the final event at the BBQ on the Bypass in Langley. 

Huge congratulations to BBQ Bob and the Eh Team from Whistler who were on House of Q's tail all summer long adding pressure to the events.  BBQ Bob was the recipient for the award in 2009 after a stellar year of bbq.

The Veljacic Cup is named in honor of the Veljacic family who were long-time fire-fighters and bbq enthusiasts who are credited with starting competitive bbq in British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest.
